The 5 Best Towns in Oregon for a Beach House

The 5 Best Towns in Oregon for a Beach HouseThe state of Oregon offers a variety of landscapes ranging from rolling mountains to scenic coastline. Amidst the serenity of nature, towns big and small serve as hubs for the human population. Each of these towns has something special to offer locals and tourists alike.

Looking for the perfect locale to purchase a beach house in Oregon? Here’s our list of top towns to trek to when looking to purchase your beach bungalow.

Newport, Oregon

Population: 10,680

Average Home Price: $320,158

Newport has a population of just over 10,000 people. It’s located on the Pacific Coast two and a half hours southwest of Portland and offers a superb blend of a quaint village feel coupled with space to roam and explore.

The area boasts two lighthouses, the Yaquina Bay and Yaquina Head Lighthouses, each jutting high above the coast. Nye Beach offers a unique perspective of natural wildlife, including whales and bald eagles.

Shopping abounds, as the Historic Bayfront and Downtown Deco District both do a seamless job incorporating the local fare into their businesses. It’s easy to see why Newport is on the list of areas to consider for your beach home.

Astoria, Oregon

Population: 9,976

Average Home Price: $314,388

The oldest city in the state of Oregon, Astoria is nestled snugly between Washington and Oregon at the joining of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean. While known as the fictional setting of The Goonies, Astoria offers one-of-a-kind attractions that will keep visitors and residents entertained for years.

Fort Stevens State Park

Like many locations in Oregon, Astoria boasts superb opportunities to become one with nature through state parks, including Fort Stevens State Park.

The location of this city also offers something many other coastal cities do not: the ability to cross a bridge into another state. If proximity to multiple states is your fancy, Astoria may be the place for your beach home.

Cannon Beach, Oregon

Population: 1,749

Average Home Price: $581,973

Cannon Beach is the smallest town by population on our list, but it sure does pack a punch when it comes to things to do. Located just an hour and a half northwest of Portland on US-26, Cannon Beach is most known for Haystack Rock, a recognizable rock formation that is home to tufted puffins from early spring to mid-summer.

This town is also home to a lively art scene, with festivals and other cultural events taking place frequently. Your next beach home could be located in Cannon Beach, a town that offers just a little bit of everything

Bandon, Oregon

Population: 3,130

Average Home Price: $322,501

Bandon is the southernmost town on the Oregon coastline. Situated two and a half hours southwest of Eugene, the call to Bandon largely starts with the pristine Bandon Dunes Golf Resort or the Bandon Crossings Golf Course. These two links-style courses offer second-to-none views of the Oregon coast while on a golf course, something that just isn’t replicated in many places.

Not a golfer? There are plenty of other outdoor activities, such as biking, fishing, surfing, or hiking.

Shop owners are friendly, and you’ll quickly feel at home in this small community. Bandon may seem small, but there are plenty of things to do in Old Town, a district known for its art, food, and shopping.

Sea Lion Caves in Florence, Oregon

Florence, Oregon

Population: 9,103

Average Home Price: $298,317

Directly to the west of Eugene lies Florence, another coastal gem. The town became famous for its exploding whale (visit the newly christened Exploding Whale Memorial Park for more information), but there’s more to this town than airborne blubber.

Nature abounds and is embraced; take in the annual Rhododendron Festival (“Rhody Fest” to the locals) to get just a glimpse of the beauty of coastal flora.

Ready to explore fauna up close? The Sea Lion Caves are home to sea lions year-round. This is unprecedented access to an amazing marine mammal.

There are countless other outdoor activities to take part in, but it’s easy to see why Florence stands out when it comes to natural beauty.
